Narcissism: What If It's Not A Personality Disorder But A Spiritual Attack?

In the study of the human psyche, we often encounter static patterns of behavior that disrupt the original, undistorted signal of the soul. While modern psychology offers diagnostic labels like Narcissistic Personality Disorder, I view these not as permanent identities, but as the raw material of a deeper spiritual reality. We are not merely observing a personality; we are witnessing a stronghold that creates narcissism in individuals.

To navigate these encounters sovereignly, we must move past the flesh and blood of the individual and recognize the spiritual frequencies influencing their brokenness. This is not a battle of ego, but of spiritual warfare.

Commanders of the Stronghold

A stronghold is a house built out of arguments and imaginations that exalt themselves against the knowledge of truth. Within this house, several distinct spirits often operate as the commanders of the individual's distorted signal.

The Leviathan Spirit (Pride and Twisted Communication): As described in Job 41, this spirit is the king over all the "children of pride." It manifests as the victim complex, where everyone in the individual's past has "abandoned or targeted" them. Its signature is twisted speech; and a ten-minute word salad designed to induce confusion and gaslight the listener.

The Jezebel Spirit (Control and Surveillance): This spirit seeks high-level control over those with a "prophetic voice" or spiritual gifts. It functions through information mining, attempting to map your trauma and insecurities immediately so it can find the buttons required to maintain its own throne.

The Pharisee Spirit (Religious Performance): This frequency creates a "whitewashed tomb"; a mask of holiness that covers an oppressive interior. It weaponizes the bible to kill the Spirit of Grace within you, often calling a partner’s intuition "crazy" or their calling "prideful".

Beyond these, you may encounter the Spirit of Python, which wraps around a target to slowly squeeze the "breath" (the Holy Spirit) out of their life, or the Spirit of Orphanhood, which manifests as an insatiable, take everything hunger for validation.

Why the Light Attracts the Shadow of Narcissism

It is a mechanical reality that spirits of darkness are drawn to the light of Christ. They do not waste time on dim bulbs; they seek specific kingdom assets to hijack. If you find yourself repeatedly targeted, it is not a sign of weakness, but a confirmation that your signal is threatening to the enemy.

The predator hunts for:

• High Discernment: They seek to gaslight you so you stop trusting your gut.

  
  

• Generosity: They look for over-giving natures to drain emotional and financial resources, leaving the target too tired for their actual mission.

  
  

• Authenticity: Narcissistic spirits are masks; they mirror your realness to steal the favor God has placed on your life.

However, the spirit also requires a foothold to gain entry. This is often an unhealed wound or a savior complex, which is the belief that your human love can cast out a demon that only Jesus is authorized to handle. Many of us struggle with this and don't realize it because we just want to help people. But when helping someone becomes a high or a way to prove your worth, it shifts from service to idolatry. That person is the center of your life, not God, and that's an issue, especially when they expect that.

Somatic and Logical Testing

True healing requires dismantling the house the spirit built in your mind. This begins with developing a sovereign filter to test every spirit you encounter.

The Somatic Check

The Holy Spirit often communicates through the physical temple before the mind can process the data. Pay attention to a tightness in the solar plexus or a feeling of holding your breath. If your body feels it must perform or hide, the temple manager is triggering an alarm against an unauthorized guest.

The Accountability Litmus Test

Ask the individual: "Are you aware of any ways you could have done better in past relationships?"

The Stronghold Response: A distorted signal will provide a Sunday School answer where even their faults are hidden virtues ("I loved too much"). The other person is always the villain somehow.

The Healthy Response: A person with secure, healthy attachment will take ownership of their past selfishness or communication failures without making it a performance.

Counteracting the Attack

Once a spirit is identified, the response must be precise. You do not fight every frequency the same way.

1. Don't Argue, Declare

You cannot reason with a spirit that has established a seat of government in a person’s mind. When dealing with twisted speech or gaslighting, use the Sword of Truth. State the truth once and walk away. You do not argue with a snake; you simply do not get in the pit.

  Against Jezebel (Control): Practice silence and submission to God. Give the spirit nothing to mine.

• Against the Pharisee (Shaming): Lean into the spiritual adoption through salvation and the freedom of Christ. Refuse to carry the yoke of their legalistic expectations.

• Against Leviathan (Confusion): Demand precision. "For God is not a God of confusion but of peace."

3. Starve the Spirit of narcissism

Spirits require a host and fuel. Narcissistic spirits fuel up on reaction. By employing the gray rock method (becoming as uninteresting and unresponsive as a pebble) you remove the spirit’s "food," causing the stronghold to become brittle.

Reclaiming Your Sovereignty

The devil tries to glamorize a "Villain Era" because he knows that hatred and resentment are just love in reverse and they keep you tethered to the narcissist’s gravity. A villain is still obsessed with the one who hurt them, and while they don't love them, they still center them in their minds.

The Sovereign Empath chooses the middle path. You see the energy, you feel the spirit, but you are unshakeable. You do not need to destroy the individual because you are too busy building your own kingdom. You aren't bitter; you are simply finished.

The Sovereign Arsenal

To anchor your identity, you need to replace the narcissist’s labels with God’s titles. Audit your gates of access. For example, if you need external validation to feel beautiful or worthy, your gate is open for a spirit to enter.

Decree these truths over your soul:

• Against Control: "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (2 Cor 3:17).

  
  

• Against Shame: "I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14).

  
  

• Against Isolation: "God sets the solitary in families" (Psalm 68:6).

  
  

• Against the Savior Complex: "It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man" (Psalm 118:8).

Healing is more than just getting the person out of your house; it is tearing down the walls they built in your head and heart while they were there. As sovereign women, we deconstruct the shadow to reclaim the original signal. You are not a victim of the battle; you are the Sovereign Warrior who has been refined by it. As long as you move forward and don't repeat the cycles, then this refining fire will do it's job and eventually set you free, better and stronger than before.
